As we approach the upcoming budget referendum in Madison on November 5th, I urge our community to recognize the deep moral obligation we have to support each other. My faith teaches that we are called to share our resources and lift up our neighbors, especially those who are most vulnerable.
This referendum is not just a matter of fiscal policy. This is an opportunity to reaffirm our commitments to protecting jobs, investing in public services and funding our social safety net – all of which improve human flourishing. These services are a lifesaver for many, ensuring that everyone, regardless of circumstance, has access to what they need to thrive. When we support programs that meet basic needs, we strengthen the very fabric of our community.
In a world where resources often seem scarce, let us remember the abundance we possess and choose to share it. Voting yes in this referendum is an act of compassion that ensures that no one is left behind and that all members of our community can prosper.
Let’s stand together, not just for ourselves but for our neighbors, embracing our collective responsibility to foster a thriving, inclusive Madison.
