Pamela Gines-Brown (North Las Vegas City)

Pamela Gain-Brown, the first African-American Major of North Las Vegas, was born in 1962 on an Indian reservation in Utah. Her parents were Theron and Naomi Gines. In 1964, the family moved to North Las Vegas to be able to continue their career in education.

Pamela Gines attends local schools in North Las Vegas, but after graduating from high school, she enrolled in Prairie View A & M University, HBCU Institution in Texas. Goynes won a bachelor’s degree, Summa Cum Laude in music education. Later, she visits the University of Southeastern Nova in FT. Lauderdale, Florida, where she received a master’s degree in elementary education with approval in educational leadership. Gines has been working in the Clark County School System in North Las Vegas for more than three decades. She has been teaching music in schools for the first 20 years. The last years of her career have been spent as an administrator at Clark County Schools.

Pamela’s father, Theron Gines, was the first African American to serve in the North Las Vegas Municipal Council and the first to serve as mayor Pro Tempore for the city. He also runs unsuccessfully for the post of mayor. Pamela decided to follow her father’s footsteps and in 2011 was elected to the North Las Vegas Municipal Council, where she represents the second ward of the city. Gines served in the City Council for the next 10 years. During part of this time, she served as mayor Pro Tempore, becoming the first black woman to hold this post.

In 2022, Gines announced his candidacy for mayor of North Las Vegas. In the non -partisan primary, she was the best voter among eight candidates. She continued to win the general elections on November 8, 2022, winning nearly 67% of the vote. Goynes took office on December 1, 2022. North Las Vegas is one of the fastest growing cities in Nevada. The population of the city increased by 21% between 2010 and 2020. It is also the largest city of minority majority in the country. White and Spaniards contain 42% of the city’s population. The African-American population of the city is 22%.
As mayor Pamela Gines-Brown, he strives to make the city’s employees, and the police department reflects the diversity of North Las Vegas. Under her guidance, the city offers various packages for stimulating and bonuses for attracting and maintaining well -trained police officers. It works to lead the health and wellness campus Helios in the city. The center is revived. Over the last 3 years, over twenty new restaurants have been opened. Under her leadership, the federal funding, aimed at the city, continues to increase dramatically ($ 121 million were awarded to the city in 2021). She has announced plans to update all city parks, adding new equipment, splash pads, lighting and dog parks.

Pamela Gain-Brown is married to Romero Brown. She has two elderly children: Bobby R. Owens III and Michael A. Owens.
