A drunken teenager, Eyre, jumped onto a railway track during a night out with friends – an Eyre advertiser

First offender Jack Robson traveled from his Rozelle Terrace home to Irvine to see friends on July 28 this year.

The evening ended with him yelling offensive comments at people at the Irvine train station and standing on the train line.

The 18-year-old appeared at Kilmarnock Sheriff Court on October 21 for sentencing after pleading guilty by letter to two charges earlier in the year.

He admitted trespassing on the railway, owned by Network Rail, dangerously close to railway tracks at New Street station.

The teenager also pleaded guilty to behaving in a threatening and abusive manner by shouting, swearing and making offensive comments.

The crime is aggravated by prejudice related to colour, race, nationality, ethnicity or national origin.

Sentencing, Robson’s barrister Peter Murray said: “You can see he’s wearing a suit and boots and he’s taking the matter very seriously.

“He is absolutely humiliated by his behaviour. He is aware of the disturbance he has caused at the station to users of public services. There is no excuse for his behavior.

“He has friends in Irvine and traveled to Irvine for an evening with them. He drank too much.

“The only thing to his credit is that he is very remorseful for his behavior and is coming forward [at court] no record.”

Sheriff Colin Bissett said: “This was a bit of an odd incident involving Mr Robson.

“You have taken responsibility for your actions and that is to your credit. I asked you to appear before me because I was concerned about the incident, which not only involved your horribly abusive behavior towards people at the station, but also involved your jumping the railway itself.

“I’m going to put you to the test and see if this is a one time incident or not.”

Sentencing was adjourned until April next year because Robson had behaved well.
