The family of Gilbert Richard Turcotte is saddened to announce his sudden but peaceful death at his home on October 14, 2024 at the age of 88. Born and raised in Falher, Alberta, Gilbert continued his pharmacy studies at the University of Alberta and then worked in Edmonton for several years before moving to Calgary, where he has resided for most of his life. Recently, due to failing health, Gilbert moved back to Edmonton to be closer to family.
Gilbert was passionate about music and movies. He was happiest when he could host movie nights at his home every week for the past 30 years, welcoming numerous friends, family and neighbors to join. He had a huge collection of tapes, LPs, CDs, movies that he loved to share and talk about. Gilbert was also a talented pianist and in his younger years, while growing up, played in a band that performed local dances. Gilbert has always maintained strong ties to his Francophone heritage and culture and has communicated with many of his relatives in Quebec.
Gilbert is survived by his brothers Roland (Leon) and Leo (Suzanne) and 7 nieces and 3 nephews. He was predeceased by his brother Paul (Norma) and his parents Bruno and Jeanne Turcotte. He will celebrate a funeral Mass at a later date in July 2025 in Falher, Alberta.
Donations may be made to the Cancer Society and the Heart Foundation.
