Two organizations joined to launch a historic Cancer CONNECTION Campaign – Wibw

Topeka, Kan. (WIBW) – The Make Pink Lemonade Foundation united with another organization to create awareness of a serious problem in the West Ridge mall on Saturday.

“We are hosting an event with the American Cancer Society, which will talk about the importance of the early discovery of cancer,” says Jessica Morton-Wylam, founder of Make Pink Lemonade.

Paint the Town Pink is a festival of a kick that begins a year -round campaign for awareness.

“It was great,” said Lisa Herkenrat, a volunteer at the American Cancer Society. “I had many people to come to the ACS table who asked if we knew about a program to help people get access to mammograms.”

Other groups also submitted to the event, from suppliers to mental health organizations.

“We are here again to say you are not alone,” said Isaac Johnson of Nami Kansas. “There are other people who understand and who can support you, so we provide our free services to people. You can just show up again without having to pay a therapist, right? You can just show up and talk to other people who are also depressed or worried or other things. ”

The wider purpose is to encourage attendees to be active.

“In order to become something that we all think all year long and help everyone: our neighbors, members of our family, all we know, our colleagues even go out and be tested. Not only do you wait until October, ”Herkenrat said.

This is part of a change in the community that Morton-Wiliams has recently seen.

“I think cancer is starting to become important for everyone. It’s not just about it if it touches your life. You may know a friend or loved one who has it. You don’t just need to affect you, so it’s time to get together as a community and help us serve all those people who go through their treatment and beyond. “

The event appeared at Topeka’s Symphony Orchestra. You can donate to the American Cancer Society and make a pink lemonade to help them continue their intercession.
