Las Vegas, Nevada – A serious fire broke out at a home in southwest Las Vegas early Thursday morning, leaving four people unaccounted for.
The Clark County Fire Department received a call around 4:08 a.m. and arrived to find flames pouring from second and third floor windows. Two people inside managed to jump from the third floor and were taken to UMC for treatment. Meanwhile, four other residents are still missing.
Firefighters first tried to enter through the second-floor front door, but were repulsed by the heat. They then broke through the garage door to look for others, but the second floor collapsed, making things even more difficult. To prevent the fire from spreading to nearby homes, crews took a defensive approach. A second alarm went off at 4:18 a.m. and by 4:22 a.m. firefighters were able to extinguish the flames from the outside and begin searching the wreckage.
The roof and floors collapsed into a large pile of debris in the garage, making it difficult to continue fighting the fire. Fire crews are still checking for hot spots, and heavy rescue teams, along with Nevada Task Force 1 specialists, are assisting in the search.
They are still trying to determine what caused the fire. This situation is evolving, so there will be more updates as information becomes available.
