Duke basketball recently formed 247sports’ No. 1 recruiting class for the Class of 2025 with the recent commitment of No. 19 recruit Nicolas Hamenia. It came just under two weeks after the Blue Devils received commitments from the twin sons of Grand Duke Carlos Boozer, No. 2-ranked Cameron Boozer and No. 21-ranked Kaiden Boozer.
However, head coach John Scheier and the rest of the coaching staff may not be ready, as Shelton Henderson is now expected to commit to Duke.
Henderson is a 6′ 6″ 220-pound small forward from Bellaire High School (Texas) and his commitment will add another layer of support to the Blue Devils’ frontcourt next season with the commitments of power forwards Cameron Boozer and Hamenia already. Henderson is a wing who can guard multiple positions on the floor and has the ability to create his own offense.
Henderson gave Duke three crystal ball predictions yesterday, all said with a medium degree of confidence. But an interesting post from the Duke Basketball X account suggests that commitment may already be locked.
Now, this post may come in light of Khamenei’s pledge to Durham, but it came a day after his commitment and after Duke’s social media accounts posted their celebrations for it. Could Henderson have told the coaching staff of his plans to take over at Durham?
That timing makes sense, as Henderson told 247sports’ Brandon Jenkins of his plans to commit in early November at the Team USA Minicamp in Colorado Springs. His three finalists are Duke, Texas and Louisville.
Scheier prioritized length and size at the position when building his 2024 team, and another frontcourt shot for the Blue Devils could keep the formula the same next season.
