BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — A 28-year-old Birmingham man has been charged with capital murder in connection with a fatal shooting in July.
The Birmingham Police Department confirmed that Montez Malik Olison was arrested Wednesday in the killing of Dietrich Boone, 45, of Birmingham.

Around 2 p.m. on July 4, officers found Boone shot in the 2500 block of 7th Avenue North. First responders transported Boone to UAB Hospital, where he later died. Police said Boone was wounded during a shootout at the intersection of 25th Street North and 7th Avenue North, and at least 50 different shell casings were recovered from the scene.
At the time of the shooting, police said the shooting was a targeted attack.
Olison is currently being held in the Jefferson County Jail without bond.
