When you think of beautiful places to the south, oak images, draped by moss in Georgia, or colorful rows in South Carolina, dramatic smoky mountain views or white beaches on the Persian Gulf of Persian Coast can come to mind. The whole state of Western Virginia deserves to be in the imagination of people. Although he may not get as much attention as the other parts of the region, he is home to stunningly beautiful mountains, rivers, cities and architecture. Here are some of our favorite places.

Like a model that cannot take a bad photo, the State Forest Kanava is magnificent at any time of the year. Known for its wild flowers and a bird population, the forest lights up with a shiny color in the fall. Many simple forest, you can camp, bike, hike, ride horses, and even go to a shooting range in this leaf paradise with 9,300 acres, just outside Charleston.

Harpers Ferry

People often come to Harpers’s ferry because of her story – it was a key place during the Civil War and a favorite spot of Thomas Jefferson – but they let them think about his beauty. Jefferson himself has been reported to say that the view of the river here is “maybe one of the most scholarly scenes in nature.” While parts of the city were destroyed during the war, many buildings still stand and others have been reconstructed, giving the area a charming feeling. The city is also in a national park where you can walk the same incredible point of view that Jefferson falls in love.

West Virginia is filled with waterfalls and this is not the largest, most dramatic one of the group. But some say that Albert Falls, on the Black Water River in the city of Thomas, is the most beautiful. Depending on the season, water may look turquoise in color. It is also easy to access and requires only a short hike from the road.

The Capitol city of West Virginia is Charleston and this is where you will find her Capitol Grand State building with her Gold Leaf dome. Inside the building you will see a 4,000 pound 8 -foot width chandelier, which drips with crystals in Rotonda and nine different types of marble used in the flooring, walls and other design elements. You can peek inside or sign up for a tour.

If you are a fan of the covered bridges, you will like Western Virginia – there are 19 of them throughout the country. Herns mill covers the Lewisburg Bridge dates back to 1884, but thanks to some modern reinforcements, you can still go through the charming structure to this day.

Summersville Lake

The Summersville State Park received its official designation in 2023, but people have come to this area for decades, mainly with its stunning co -lake. The home of the most clear water in West Virginia, it takes 2700 acres, making it the largest lake in the state. You can dive with snorkel and dive, in addition to the boat and kayak.
