Wilmington, NC (WNCN) – Coast Guard crews saved two men from a sinking boat off the coast of North Carolina on Tuesday.

According to USCG, two men were in a 32-meter sailboat called “Walrus” about 103 miles east of Wilmington. She began to sink and “they failed to keep up with the flood,” which made them activate their emergency equipment to call the coastal security for help.

The regional command center of the military branch directed the C-130 Hercules aircraft and the MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter by Air Station Elizabeth City to respond to sailors.

First on the stage was the C-130 crew, which evaluated the situation, then sent a dehydrated pump to try to help mitigate floods on board the boat. When this did not help, they were determined by the two men who needed to be extracted from the court immediately.

Shortly after, Jayhawk arrived. The helicopter’s crew picked up sailors from the sinking boat and brought them to the shore.

The walrus is abandoned in the sea, USCG said.

“Rescue emphasizes the critical importance of properly registered communication equipment,” said Lieutenant Shena Bannon, coordinator of the mission to search and rescue the County Five on the Coast Guard. “The Mariners VHF radio with a digital selective call, their emergency position indicating Radio Beacon, and sends a device, allowed us to react quickly. Guaranteeing that their equipment was registered, we had accurate disaster information, which allows for a successful and successful rescue. I cannot emphasize how important it is for all sailors to register their communication equipment to improve water safety. “

After returning ashore, the rescued men were provided by the Wilmington Salvation Army, according to Coast Guard, while modern aviation organizes transportation to Wilmington International Airport to help sailors return home.
