LUBBOCK COUNTY, Texas (KCBD) – Firefighters from the Woodrow and Slaton Volunteer Fire Departments responded to the 5400 block of East FM 1585 for a fire at the Posey Substation.
The call was received around 8:30pm on Wednesday.
LP&L released this statement Thursday:
“After consultation with industry experts and fire officials, the best course of action is to closely monitor the situation and allow the fire to die down after fuel supplies are exhausted,” LP&L said. “This course of action will allow the fire to be safely extinguished without causing damage to surrounding areas.”
The Lubbock County Sheriff’s Office says the fire is under control but is expected to burn for about 40 days.
It will be monitored by Lubbock Power & Light personnel.
“The Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) and the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) have been notified and are fully aware of the plan in place,” LP&L said. “While no specific cause has been identified, LP&L believes this was caused by equipment failure and will work closely with officials as they determine the root cause.”
There are currently no reports of casualties. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
