A man from Baton Rouge with a history of DWI sentences was arrested on Friday after claiming to have killed a passenger in a crash while driving a drunk, Sheriff’s sheriff in East Baton Rouge said.
The 40 -year -old Blake Hayidel was east of Hoo Shoo Too Road on January 26, when his vehicle turned from the roadway to a water pipeline, became air and collided with a tree, according to the sheriff’s office. Hayden and a passenger woman were transported to hospital, and the passenger died later that evening.
A blood sample taken from Heidel to the hospital reveals a blood alcohol content of 0.375%, the Sheriff’s office said. The first responders also noted numerous open containers for alcohol and a strong odor of alcohol when they arrived at the scene.
Heidel was booked at the parish prison in East Baton Rouge for car killing, operating in a drunken state, fourth crime, reckless operation of a vehicle, ownership of a vehicle and the operation of a vehicle while under suspension. He has three previous DWI sentences according to arrest records and appeared in court two weeks before, when he was allowed to continue his probation, records show.
