Cuellar meets to deal with Federal Financing freezing – KGNS

Laredo, Texas (KGNS) – US Congressman Henry Quelarus spoke to his voters about freezing federal funding both in person and Zoom on January 31st.

Cuellar explained that while most federal programs will continue to work normally, some programs under the umbrella for diversity, justice and inclusion (DEI), including many non -profit organizations, will no longer receive federal funding.

DEI refers to programs designed to promote justice and accessibility in various sectors according to the International Institute for Management.

This decision expressed concerns here at home, as over a dozen representatives from various ladyo organizations that depend on federal funding, they were left full of questions.

Among these non-governmental organizations (NGOs), an institute is conducting the most needy in our community.

According to the director of Holding Institute, Pastor Mike Smith, “organizations like Holding Institute have long existed. Immigration is part of the services we provide, but this is not the only thing we do. We also provide a lot of services in the community such as consultation, food, eating assistance, help with clothes that you order. “

Smith was one of the many of the crowd of questions and concerns about the future of the organization. Noting: “He was very clear where he was in the protection of our community. We have to do more as a community, because this is not the time to wait and see what will happen, because it will happen independently. ”

Cuellar assured some organizations and institutes present at the meeting, such as Laredo College that their financing would continue and that only those under the DEI umbrella would be affected.

Noting: “I think it’s the key to look at the executive orders that the president has presented, and that’s it. If this is related to trance genders, a certain foreign aid, migrants and green projects, these are the ones that I think will be directed. “

Despite the reduction of funding, Smith says his organization will seek alternative sources of financial support, including private donors and a conversion to the county and the city for help.

Mentioning, “more special NGOs, such as the holding of an institute, must come together with other NGOs, together with the city and district partners in order to come up with a strategy.”

In the meantime, Cuellar says it will continue to work to ensure that other basic services remain funded. Adding, “Everything else, such as the main health services, housing, educational security and the military, is good.”
