The intersection of Peters Creek Parkway and Brewer Road are ready to receive upgrades to their pedestrian infrastructure.

Winston-Salem, NC teenage recovers after being hit by a car outside high school in Parkland earlier this week.

The collision focuses on the safety of pedestrians from Peters Creek Parkway in Winston-Salem.

Nixon Norman on WFMY News 2 learned about the city’s plans for solutions.

The city is missing from the pedestrian infrastructure according to the Director of Winston-Salem Transport, Jeff Fenlasr.

The ideas are worn around in ways to fix this problem before a Parkland student is hit by a car, but now it’s even more clear that something needs to be done.

The main problem spot is the intersection of Peters Creek Parkway and Brewer Road near the school, where students often walk to the business nearby.

While there are crossed walks in the area, there are no pedestrian road signs. This is something Fansler wants to install before the beginning of the next school year.

“There is a lot of need for pedestrian facilities. We have documented cases where we have an increase in this area that people use their feet as a way of transport. Our hope is to design, build and install these signals for movement before school season, In August, so we will work quickly and start there, “Fenler said.

He also said that while there are several sidewalks in the area, there are other spots where there are large gaps in the sidewalks and some spots without sidewalks.

Fansler said the city has been working to get funding to remedy these gaps for six years at the state level.

“They also sought to fund and pursue the sidewalk projects on Brewer Road and Peters Creek Parkway to have a more linear facility for people to get to many more destinations than they live to where they go to school, to where They work. ” said Fenler.

Fansler said the city would support the WS/FCS decision to bring a security guard at the Parkland, which is talked about in the area.

Although this would be a separate effort, Fennerrier said the crossing guards could be extremely useful.
