Western Virgy Warning: Risk of high water and landslide until 22:00 – State Herald

Charleston, WV – Flood Warning remains in force until 10 am EST Friday for parts of Central and Northern West Virginia, including Braxton, Clay, Nicholas, Pocahontas, Randolph, Upshur and Webster.

According to the National Meteorological Service (NWS) in Charleston, excessive rainfall has led to floods of rivers, rivers and low areas. An additional 0.25 to 0.75 inches are expected to increase concerns about isolated rocky waterfalls and landslides in steep terrain.

The affected areas include:

•   Cities and towns: Elkins, Summersville, Richwood, Marlinton, Clay, Webster Springs
•   Landmarks: Snowshoe, Holly River State Park, Cass Scenic Railroad

Safety precautions:

•   Avoid flooded roads—most flood-related deaths occur in vehicles.
•   Be alert for landslide risks—watch for leaning trees, water seepage, or shifting ground.
•   Report flooding to the NWS Charleston at 800-401-9535 when safe.
