LAREDO, Texas (KGNS) – Officials say while a violent Venezuelan gang has a presence in Texas, the situation in Laredo is different.
State authorities have tracked activity from the Tren de Aragua throughout Texas.
According to Congressman Henry Cuellar, Laredo does not see many crossings by Venezuelan citizens compared to other parts of the border.
Cuellar, however, clarified that Venezuela does not facilitate the sharing of criminal records, making investigations a difficult task and a long-term problem.
Cuellar noted, “A lot of times they have to rely on tattoos or other things that they can look at. A report has come out saying that because they don’t get these records, the agents are in many ways working at a disadvantage,” Cuellar continued, “So they can come to the U.S. and be here for years without the proper oversight.”
A recent incident involved four gang members when they were caught and arrested after occupying a vacant apartment complex in San Antonio.
