E. Kendall Eakes from Virginia Beach, VA died on January 17, 2025 at the Westminster Canterbury Pension Center at the age of 101. He was born in 1923 in Clinton North Carolina, son of John Sumner Eyk and Clay Kendall Aeks. In 1947, Kendall married Efi Lee Clark of Rocky Point, North Carolina. They Celebrated Their 77th Wedding Anniversary on February 9, 2024. Kendall Is Survived by His Wife Lee, A Resident at Westminster Canterbury ES, JR OF CHESAPEAKE, 6 Grandchildren, and 7 great -grandchildren.
After high school, he visited the University of Alabama for two and a half years. He served in the Army Air Force during World War II as a pilot in the 9th Air Force, flying 29 missions over Germany. After his military service, he graduated from the State University of North Carolina with a degree of agronomy.
Kendall has been chasing career throughout life in the agricultural, chemical and marine industries. He occupied various positions for sales and sales management at Smith-Douglass Company in Norfolk, Virginia, as a district manager at Mobil Chemical Company in Cincinnati, Ohi, and as a regional manager with Occidental Chemical Comp. He retired as president and general manager of the Elizabeth River terminal of Chesapik, Virginia. While active in the marine industry, he served on the Board of Directors of the Hampton Rhodes Marine Association, the shipping of Hampton Rhodes and the Chamber of Commerce. He was also president of the Hampton Rhodes Foreign Trade Club.
Beyond his devotion to his dear wife at 77, Kendall was a passionate gardener, fisherman, golf (he shot his age at 79) and a cyclist. He was the president of Virginia Beach Golf Club. He was also a volunteer driver of the American Cancer Commission. Kendall was a great man of faith and gave much of the time and finances of churches in NC, VA and OH. Most recently, he served as the founder of the elder at the Bible Church of Grace’s Virginia Beach and the Flu Leader for 20+ years. He was a generous supporter of CRU and other Christian groups, reaching young people in high school and university campuses.
Kendall was a faithful husband, a loving father, a hardworking and special friend of all who knew him. We will remember his big smile, encouraging words and how he always made every person he met to feel special.
A memorial to celebrate his life will be held in the Holy Trinity Chapel in the Westminster Chapel Chapel on Shore Drive in Virginia Beach on Monday, February 10, 3:30 pm.
