A new In-N-Out Burger is coming to Carson, but there’s no estimate when it will open its doors.
Work on the project is progressing, according to Mike Abbott, vice president of store development for the Irvine-based chain, and according to city officials.
The construction site is at 20512 Avalon Blvd. at the entrance to the SouthBay Pavilion near the Olive Garden Restaurant.
The mall hit the news in July for a riot that led to the detention of more than 70 minors.
Plans submitted by staff to the city’s planning commission in 2022 called for a 3,885-square-foot building with a drive-through that could accommodate 24 vehicles.
The project occupies nearly an acre of existing parking. Planners estimated the mall would lose 73 parking spaces, but there is still excess parking available.
A traffic analysis showed that the project would have little or no impact on nearby intersections.
In-N-Out posted the restaurant on the “Opening Soon” page on its website. The Irvine-based chain typically waits until a project is at or near the construction phase before listing it. Construction usually takes eight or nine months.
Planning and permitting can be months or years in the works before In-N-Out lists a project on its website.
Nearby In-N-Out drive-thrus include one at 730 W Carson St., Torrance.
