Laredo, Texas (KGNS)-this morning, January 30, the city, together with the Texas International University (TAMIU), held a ribbon cutting ceremony to open the most modern tennis complex.
It was an emotional moment for tennis lovers of all ages who have waited years to see this project that came to light, including the President of the Laredo Tennis Association, Tina Trevino.
“1996-98 We started talking about this in collaboration with Texas A&M, inventing the land as a beautiful gift from Killams,” Trevino said.
The project was approved by voters through a proposal in 2014 and, despite the twists and turns, Trevino continued to insist to make sure the project was being implemented. “I was the voice for the tennis community. I was the one who tried to keep it, so she never released our community, never played politics, she was just focused on community service, “she added.
The construction of the 18 court facility was completed last March; However, the project hit the network by preventing it from using it by avid tennis players such as JC Herrera and Leopoldo Flores. “The good things take time and I know they had to throw away some things, maybe many big organizations gathered. It’s hard, but the finished product looks good and I love Maroon Courts, it stands out: “Flores said.
The Council for District 5, Ruben Gutierrez, pointed out the meteorological problems to cause some of the delays, as well as other issues related to safety standards.
Noting: “We had some problems with the contractor and with some of the people in the area so that we could approve it, as state standards were different from local standards and had some problems when we came to it. In the end, the project was completed, with which we are very proud, and this is a beautiful project that is finally done. “
While the facility will be open to the public, the complex will be maintained by Tamiu, under the supervision of the director of tennis operations, Heime Dondzhuan, who already has some major events planned for the community.
“We will host different types of events, mainly tournaments. We will now be open next week with a UTSA tournament with the city and then we will follow the border Olympics by the end of February, “Dondzhuan said.
