Renault, Nev – The News 4 viewer Missy van Hek wrote, asking us to publish a story about the convicted dog killer Jason Brown, who is looking for an early release from prison.
Brown was convicted in 2015 for murder and dismembered seven dogs. He even on videos some of the crimes. It was a case that certainly caused a lot of outrage in the community at that time.
Brown received the maximum sentence of 11 to 28 years in prison. These are four years for each dog he has killed, which contributes to the 28 years.
Brown, however, is ready for early release. He had a hearing of conditional release this week in Carson City. The prisoners receive loans for good behavior behind bars and therefore Brown qualifies for early release.
Brown has already been refused conditional release once, which was in 2022.
The District Prosecutor’s Office of Washoe County opposes Brown’s release. Da Chris Hicks and Assistant Da Zach Young presented a five -page letter to the Conditional Release Council indicating their opposition. In his letter, Hicks and Young said Brown did not show signs of reform as he was in prison.
The Conditional Release Council has not yet issued a decision that is likely to come sometime in February.
If Brown executes his maximum sentence, he will not be released until 2043.
Thanks to our viewer Missy for writing about it. We will notify you when the Conditional Release Council in Nevada makes its decision.
