Only one inch rain fell at the Seattle International Airport in January, according to the National Meteorological Service, less than one fifth of the normal amount so far this month.
By noon on Thursday, the airport had passed two full weeks without measurable rainfall.

So far, in 2025, Olympia has 1.6 inches or one fifth of its typical rain, while Belingham had 1.4 inches, or less than one-third of its usual rainfall.
It was also dry in the mountains.
Snowpack in the west side of the central cascades was 44% below the normal January 29, according to the US Natural Resources Protection Service, while Snowpack in the mountains of the northern Puget Sound is 32% below normal. Snowpack is 19% under normal (defined as the typical amount of the years 1991-2020).
It was predicted that rain and snow were hitting Western Washington on Thursday nights and Friday, though they were not enough to bring the region anywhere near their normal January.
