Wilmington, NC (Wect) – The film industry spends about $ 200 million for productions in Wilmington last year, and internal people in the industry are looking for this issue to grow this year as more and more directors are choosing the city.

He helps that Moviemaker magazine has recently ranked Wilmington as the 3rd strongest small town in the country who lives and works as a director, which does not surprise the director of the Wilmington Regional Film Committee Johnny Griffin.

Griffin has been working in the film industry for almost four decades and he has been the director of the Regional Film Committee over the last 25 years.

“Read the words on a scenario page and then your job is to find out how to help them live it,” he said. “I’m still involved in seeing these projects to life, but that helps these projects understand if Wilmington is a place for them.”

Wilmington is the scene for hundreds of films and television shows and helps the city win the new title.

“It gives us another reason to talk about Wilmington because it is a popular place,” Griffin said.

He says the weather here allows year -round shooting, and the city has leaders in the industry to call “every city of USA”.

“You don’t look at Wilmington and you realize that you are in a particular part of the country based on architecture or vegetation,” Griffin said.

These things may be what the lights, the camera and the action in the port city carry, but Griffin says that the quality of life is what makes them stay.

“This is not another city where you are going to move, but a city where you go to become part,” he said.

The city of Griffin says it will attract even more productions in the future.

“The variety of what can be done in this area, whether it is a large blockbuster movie like Iron Man 3 or whether it is a small independent movie, all these films can be made in this city.”
