Laredo, Texas (KGNS) – the multimillion -dollar city of Laredo Sports Complex, which has been created for more than a decade, is finally open to public service.
It was a dream that finally came true for many tennis players in the community, as well as for those who have been passionate about this project from the beginning.
This morning, January 30, the city, together with the International University of Texas A&M (TAMIU), held a ribbon cutting ceremony to open the most up-to-date tennis complex.
Nearly $ 8 million facility includes six national athletics courts, 12 joined courts for recreation of a tennis association, concrete after tension, whitening and lighting.
The construction of the courts was completed last March; However, the project has encountered some obstacles, preventing it from being open to public use. The County 5 Council, Ruben Gutierrez, cites meteorological problems to cause some of the delays, as well as other safety standards.
“We had some problems with the contractor and with some of the people in the area so that we could approve it, as state standards were different from local standards and had some problems when we came to it. In the end, the project was completed, with which we are very proud, and this is a beautiful project that is finally done, “Gutierrez said.
While the facility is located on the site of Tamiu, the city of Laredo says it is open to the public. Those who are interested in using the courts will be able to go to their website and save time to play through working hours.
The complex will be under the guidance of Tamiu Director for Tennis Operations, Heime Dondzhuan, who already plans to host the tournament next week.
In a separate article, we talk with tennis players in the community about their thoughts about the new project.
