I-70 POLK-QUINCY VIADUCT PROJECT begins next week-wibw

Topeka, Kan. (Wibw)-Viaduct I-70 Polk-Quincy project will start in Topeka next week.

The Ministry of Transport in Kansas (KDOT) will start working at 2.5 miles reconstruction. The project extends from MacVicar Avenue to 6th Avenue in Topeka.

KDOT says the construction focuses on the expansion of the I-70 and the construction of the new viaduct. Officials said crews would put temporary movement control and barrier walls in areas. These positions will lead to the regulation of the ramp and reduce the tape.

The work that will affect motorists includes:

  • Monday, February 3: The crews will place barrier walls along the 1st street on Ramp to west I-70. The ramp will remain open; However, traffic can be stopped for a short while at times as the equipment moves. Slow movement and minor delays are possible.
  • Wednesday, February 5th: Crews will begin to control the movement of the I-70 between Topeka Boulevard and Makakarski Avenue Boulevard. This area in the west I-70 will be reduced to one lane until later this year. East I-70 will also be reduced from a later date. Notice will be provided in advance.
  • Monday, February 10th: Topeka’s Boulevard will be reduced to a lane in each direction between the 3rd street and the Topeka Boulevard. These canvases will only provide access to the west I-70 across 1st street on the ramp. Through traffic, he can use Kansas Avenue or alternative routes.
  • The first street between Topeka Boulevard and Kansas Avenue will also be close to traffic.

KDOT will host an open house so that the public can attend and learn about the project. Participants in the Open House will review the project and construction and will talk one to one with the project staff. The details of the open house will be shared in the coming weeks.

KDOT awarded the project for $ 239 million to Bettis Koss Construction – a joint venture between Bettis Asphalt & Construction Inc. and Koss Construction Co., both from Topeka.

The overall completion of the project is expected at the end of 2027.
