On Wednesday, Virginia heads Miami 82-71, Virginia Tech handled Florida State 76-66, Cal fell into SMU 76-65, and Stanford popped up Syracuse, 70-61.
Syracuse had a problem with slow start throughout the season, but this one could set the standard: the orange fell behind 25-2 before they began to compete.
At halftime, “Cuse made a reliable return, only 33-24.
The second half was dead even at 37-37, but it was not enough to overcome the catastrophic start.
It was also the third right loss to Syracuse. It’s hard to imagine how Orange fans accept this. There was a time when the orange was almost unthinkable to lose from a team like Stanford. We do not humiliate this team – they are quite good – but in historically Syracuse is a basketball school where Stanford was hit or missed in the hoops.
We thought early that Maxim Reyo could manage the number of smaller teams, but he continues to play at a very high level. In this he finished with 21 points and 15 rebounds. Former Blue Devil Jaylen Blakes continues to distinguish itself, ending tonight with 14 points and six rebounds.
The Syracuse star JJ Starling was only made at seven points.
Gorky Miami was near Virginia, but they just couldn’t overcome the hump. Isaac Makknelli had 26, including 6-12 from deep. Tyn Murray had 20, which simply emphasized Miami’s complete inability to keep.
The former Blue Devil Tj Powers received a few long minutes and had two assists, but it did not scratch.
Matthew Cleveland had 27 to lead Miami, and Brandon Johnson added 13. Miami has not won since December 15th.
Virginia Tech took a little surprise, dealing with FSU with relative ease and on the road too. The hockey were 35-15 at the half. It is not unprecedented or something, but this team came in 8-12 and not many people expected such a dominant ass.
Former son Devil Jaden Shut had one of his better nights with 16 points. Toby Loal led the road with 17. Taylor Ball Bowen had 14 to accelerate Nolls. Congratulations to Mike Young for his 400th career victory.
Cal hung with SMU for a while before the mustard retired near the end of the first half, building a half-time lead by 39-29. Although Cal has reached 61-55, they have never completely recovered.
We thought Andrei Stojakovic could return, but he was still out with illness. Madi Sisoko and Devin Curtis were also sitting.
BJ Edwards had a nice Cal game with 15 points, nine boards and five assists. Rhythus Petratis had 18 points and 10 boards, while Jeremiah Wilkinson added 16.
Chuck Harris led a SMU with 20 other beginner shocks double figures.
No more games until Saturday. Duke and UNC will get the most attention, but Pete in Wake Forest should be good and although it sounds weird, we had a fun feeling of Louisvil in Georgia Tech.
