An interview with former ‘Gilbert Goon’ reveals the band’s work
A former “Gilbert Goon” detailed how a group of around 40 to 50 members attacked teenagers in the East Valley, including Preston Lord.
A former member of the “Gilbert Goons” spoke to The Arizona Republic about the gang — and their culture of beatings, drugs and guns. Michael described how the police, parents and schools are turning a blind eye to what is happening in the East Valley.
A December investigation by The Republic first linked the fatal beating of 16-year-old Preston Lord to Goons, whose attacks on teenagers went unchecked by police for more than a year. The Goons recorded their blitz-style attacks on teenagers in parks and garages, outside fast food restaurants and at house parties. These videos were posted on social media.
Michael said no one in or out of the gang is safe. Anyone can be a target – including themselves. His identity was withheld to protect his family from retaliation.
