At the start of the year, the assumption in Tampa Bay was that veteran running back Rachaad White would become the backbone of the Buccaneers’ rushing attack. Near the middle of the season, however, it looked like it was a three-man job, thanks in large part to the performance of rookie Bucky Irving in the fourth round.

While Irving has had consistent success throughout the season, his last few weeks in the league have really shown his star potential in Tampa Bay’s explosive offense. Over the past two weeks, Irving has accounted for 182 scrimmage yards and a pair of touchdowns on 28 total touches. On the season, Irving was extremely efficient, averaging a solid 5.2 yards per carry on 67 total runs, proving to be the most explosive member of a stacked backfield.

As the season progresses, Irving is required to work harder and harder on offense with each game. While being in a three-man back line hampers his production a bit, it’s hard to look away when Irving touches the football, and he should continue to flourish for the rest of the season as one of the league’s best rookies.
