New low carbon vehicles launched in Durham County, expected to reduce emissions – the northern echo

Hargreaves Logistics, in partnership with Durham County Country County, introduced a fleet of Iveco Bio-Cng vehicles.

These vehicles are powered by BIO-CNG (compressed natural gas).

New vehicles will reduce carbon emissions by about 80 percent and nitric oxide emissions by 90 percent compared to diesel alternatives.

Trucks use natural gas obtained from raw materials for renewable waste, providing an “eco -friendly fuel solution checked and approved by the Ministry of Transport”.

Advisor John Shuttleworth, the Durham Cabinet Cabinet member for highways, rural communities and community safety, said: “We are glad that we worked with Hargreaves to apply new Biogas vehicles in waste transport operations in the county.

“New vehicles will help us reduce the carbon emissions of our overall waste management.

“This initiative constitutes part of our emergency response plan, where we have set action to achieve ambitious goals to reduce emissions within our operations and the wider district.

“By including vehicles with a smaller carbon in the fleet of waste transport in the county, we can provide much more green services to residents.”

Rob Vickers, managing director of Hargreaves Logistics, said: “By introducing an option with low carbon, we can reduce environmental impact from essential logistics, while adding value to our service, helping our customers work for their decarbony purposes.

“The presence of biofuels is increasing and prices are already more competitive.

“As the infrastructure develops for alternative fuels throughout the country, the transition to more green options becomes more essential, allowing our company to reduce the associated impact on the environment.”

The addition of new Iveco Bio-Cng vehicles is part of the Hargreaves Logistics Navy replacement program and one of the many low-carbon fuel options that the company is trying out.

The new fleet is described as a “significant investment” in future technologies by Hargreaves Services PLC.
