The women’s basketball team at the University of Minnesota Dulut has opened another week since Northern Sun’s Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) matches, falling at the Warriors University 57-53 on the road.
Final result: UMD (53) – WSU (57)
After lagging 5-2 to open the night, UMD continued by 5-0 with 7:58 left in the first quarter ending with three of Grace countsto take 7-5 leads. The bulldogs surrendered, leading to the end of the quarter and entered the second down 11-10.
WSU added to this lead, building an advantage of 17-15 before UMD collected five points unanswered, underlined by three of Maria countsLet’s take the lead from 20-17. The warriors responded to take a 30-22 lead in halftime.
After anthract, UMD reduced its deficit to 36-33 before continuing by 5-0 to take the lead 38-36 by 3:31 to enter the third. Winona State replied again to seize 43-40 to focus on the fourth quarter.
WSU expanded its lead in the fourth, building an advantage 48-43 before the Bulldogs collect five more points unanswered, completed by the laying of Karj, even for the result at 48 all with 5:03 to get into the race. The bulldogs could not turn their rally into a victory, though, as the warriors exceeded them 9-5 the rest of the road to close the game at 57-53. UMD shoots deep into a quarter, knocked two shots to represent six of its 13 points.
Bulldog notes against WSU
Bulldogs had three players in double digits led by Maria countsWho had 15 points, seven rebounds, five assists and two thefts. Johanna Miller Add 11 points and two blocks and Lexy Chipir also with 11 points and eight rebounds.
UMD still found success on both sides of the ball, making eight threesomes at 22 attempts throughout the night while holding Winona State shooters to only 31.7% of the pitch.
