In the December 7 election, the voters decided a proposal for St. George, including a 2% sales tax to start in April 2025, replacing the existing sales tax collected by the Baton Rouge government. The proposal was 79% of 27 355 votes.
For the upcoming spring elections, the voters will decide on key leadership positions for St. George.
Temporary Mayor Dustin Yates has announced his plans to run for a full -term mayor. Governor Jeff Landry has appointed Yates after joining the city of St. George.
“I run for mayor because I believe in a more light future for our city and parish – a future in which families are thriving, the business is growing and the neighbors work together,” Yates says in his message.
Two weeks ago, the temporary police chief Todd Morris, also appointed by landlios, announced his candidacy for a full -term position.
