RALEIGH, NC (WTVD) — It’s no secret that North Carolina is one of several key battleground states. That’s not lost on the presidential candidates, who along with their surrogates have been a constant presence in the state for months leading up to the 2024 general election.

Democrats believe they can flip North Carolina for the first time since 2008. Republicans are on the verge of handing the state over to Trump once again.

More than 1 million ballots were cast in the first four days of early voting

More than one million voters cast ballots in North Carolina in the 2024 general election, according to the State Election Commission.

The board said preliminary data showed 1,008,123 ballots were cast statewide in the first four days of in-person early voting.

“My sincerest thanks to the county election boards and the thousands of election workers across the state who make this happen,” said Karen Brinson Bell, executive director of the state board. “It’s been an incredibly busy few days. Please thank those in your community who make sure your voice counts.”

On Saturday, nearly 863,000 voters cast ballots in the first three days of the early voting period. A 2.4% increase from 2020, when more voters voted absentee due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Bill Clinton visits eastern North Carolina campaigning on the Harris-Walz ticket

Former President Bill Clinton was in eastern North Carolina on Saturday campaigning for Vice President Kamala Harris and Gov. Tim Waltz.

More than 100 people gathered at the Pitt County Democratic headquarters to hear Clinton speak. He discussed some policies, including Harris’ positions on health care and the economy.

Pitt County resident Franklin Ward said it’s important for people his age to show support and vote.

“This is our future,” Ward said. “After all, we will inherit the future of our country. That’s why I think everyone my age needs to get involved … not only find out who they’re voting for, but why they’re voting for them, but what they stand for.”

On Sunday, Clinton will be in Raleigh to lead an early voting caucus with the North Carolina Democratic Party.

Trump will hold a rally on Tuesday in Greensboro

Former President Donald Trump will hold a rally in Greensboro, North Carolina on Tuesday, October 22.

Doors will open at the Greensboro Coliseum on W. Gate City Blvd. at 3 p.m., and Trump is scheduled to deliver remarks at 7 p.m

The rally will come a day after Trump stops in Greenville on Monday, October 21.

Second Gentleman Douglas Emhoff will be making a stop in NC next week

The second gentleman, Douglas Emhoff, will be in the Triangle on Tuesday to encourage North Carolinians to vote early, according to the Harris-Waltz campaign.

He will participate “in hurricane relief efforts and deliver remarks at a Get Out The Vote event.”

The exact location and time have not yet been announced.
