Lubbock’s Public Health Confirms a Positive Case of Measles – KCBD

Lubbock, Texas (News Message) – Lubbock’s Public Health says a child at a school who has recently been treated at a Lubbock health facility has tested positively for measles.

Lubbock Public Health works with the South Plains Public Health District and the health facility to determine any Lubbock exhibitions. There are currently no known places for exposure outside the health facility. The health facility will contact people who may have been exposed in their building. Lubbock’s Public Health will provide updates when the investigation is completed.

Lubbock’s public health has confirmed that the child has not been vaccinated for measles.

Symptoms:

Symptoms appear 7 to 21 days after contact with the virus and may include:

  • Fever
  • Cough
  • Liquid nose
  • Red, watery eyes
  • 2-3 days after the onset of symptoms, small white spots (koplik spots) may appear inside the mouth.
  • 3-5 days after the symptoms begin, a rash that looks flat and red can appear on the face and hair. This rash tends to spread down to the neck, trunk, arms, legs and legs.

Transmission:

Murbili is a highly contagious virus that lives in the mucus of the nose and throat of an infected person. It can spread to others by coughing and sneezing. Breathing in droplets or touching surfaces that are contaminated can also be contagious. The virus can live up to two hours in the airspace. If you think you have been exposed to measles or experience symptoms:

  • Isolate immediately to prevent the spread of the virus to others.

  • Be careful about the symptoms that usually develop from 7 to 21 days after exposure.
