Laredo, Texas (KGNS) – At the municipal council meeting on Tuesday, staff from the bridge system maintenance department were honored for their courage during a critical incident.
Mayor and City Council members acknowledged Alejandro Castillo, Jose Gaspar and Angel Garza for their rapid reaction to a dangerous situation. The event happened on December 11, at about 7:30 am near Bridge 1, when an adult passenger from Chicago mistakenly turned his car, jumped into the street and collided with a brick wall. The vehicle’s engine began to start, but the three employees acted quickly, extinguishing the flames and guaranteeing the safety of the driver.
Their quick thinking, courage and usefulness were applauded by city officials.
In addition, former bridge director Ivet Lemon has been recognized as more than 20 years of dedicated service in the role. The officials praised her leadership and contribution to the city bridge system.
