Minneapolis – It happens to the best of us and will not control it. Hiccups is part of life, but is there any actual hiccup treatment?
“We don’t really know how often hiccups are because they are so common,” says Dr. Stephen Stacey, a doctor at the Mayo clinic in La Cross, Wisconsin.
Stacey is an expert in this area, but there is a hiccup in the study.
“They don’t really cause harm, so people didn’t really have done so much research to see how common they are,” he said.
There is also not much studies on the cause, but it starts in the womb.
“So this can be the nervous system and the muscular system that just practice before presenting a big birth show,” Stacey said.
Stacey is one of the few researchers in this area, with the help of his inhabitant, they have explored the most important hiccup-related question: is there a cure for hiccups?
Stacey entertained some theories like frightening someone.
“The intimidation can work. It would be when you are scared, holding your breath, the level of acid rises and this can cause the hiccup to disappear,” Stacey said.
Another theory hangs upside down, but he says there is no proof of it. As for drinking water, Stacey says she can help you hold your breath.
Holding his breath, he says, is “the one who had the most evidence behind him.”
Stacey and his partner have recently confirmed a study cure.
“We have tried it for many people and it works for them all,” he said.
The key he says is “the control of the diaphragm and the acid level is increased.”
Try inhaling and then keep your throat open as if you were about to talk, but you just inhale and still try to move your diaphragm and after about 30 seconds you leave your throat open and then slowly breathe out
He says the key is to leave your throat open as you hold your breath.
“People need to know about it,” Stacey said.
He says another hack that can also cure hiccups is to knock a glass of water without coming to air.
Stacey says we really don’t know what hiccups are triggered and research is difficult because you have to catch people in the act.
They did their research on the respiratory technique, watching people in their clinics who just happened to hiccup.
