Scotsdale police assistant Joe Leduk was appointed a temporary police chief of police, the department said on Thursday.
LEDUC will replace boss Jeff Walter on Monday. Walter was eavesdropped as a temporary acting manager of the city earlier in January and will monitor the communications and human resources departments in the city, and will remain head of the Scottsdale Police Department for the moment.
“It is an honor for me to serve our community in this capacity and look forward to continuing to continue the inheritance and great leadership of boss Jeff Walter,” Leduk said in a press release published on social media.
According to a press release from the Scottsdale Police Department, LEDUC has been an employee of the department for more than three decades, starting as a patrol officer in 1991.
Throughout his career, Leduk has worked as a detective for crime and murder of property and a murder detective, serving in the Federal Special Administration Group for drug administration and controls the Special Victims Division. He rose through the ranks, becoming a sergeant, a lieutenant and a commander.
In 2021, Leduk was promoted to an assistant police chief.
Police in Scottsdale have also announced on social media that commander Chris Watson will become a temporary acting head of the police.
Walter was appointed Assistant City Manager by the temporary city manager Greg Caton, who himself replaced former manager of the long -term city of Jim Thompson after his retirement in December 2024.
