Florence, SC (WBTW) – Housing facilities in Florence and Hartsville were closed last month after state regulators submitted licenses from their mother companies.

Patriot Living-Living Campuses for Greer-based construction company Cunningham-Waters-in these communities, along with Sumter and Taylors, discontinued operations on November 18, after multiple inspections revealed poor conditions and poor maintenance of each of them.

The location of Florence and Hartsville housed a total of 140 people. They are located respectively on 739 S. Parker Drive and 1131 E. Home Avenue.

The Cunningham-Waters telephone number is not in operation, and searching on the Internet says the company is closed permanently.

State Health Department officials visited the Pee Dee sites in early 2023 and found several maintenance violations. Subsequent checks in the spring and summer have revealed even more problems, including:

  • cockroaches crawling near toilet and showers in a men’s bathroom

  • “sharp” urine smell of several rooms and shared bathroom

  • Transfusion of junk and flies into the corridors, common areas and dining room

  • bedbugs

  • Non -working HVAC units

Officials said temperatures in some baths reach 128 degrees.

“DPH is coordinating with other government agencies and residents regarding the relocation of residents to safe facilities,” said agency spokesman Casey White in an email.
