San Bernardino County – Supervision of San Bernardino County wrote an open letter to Southern California Edison (SCE), expressing concerns about the latest excludes of Public Safety Electricity (PSP).

Dawn Row’s supervisor said that residents in mountain communities, who rely on electricity, to stay warm during the cold winter months, were left without electricity sometimes more than a week.

According to SCEPSPS is a tool that uses to prevent fires.

During PSPS, SCE temporarily excludes the power supply of neighborhoods during dangerous weather conditions to prevent its electrical system from becoming a potential source of ignition.

Rowe said that although they understand the threat of strong winds, which can put significant voltage to the energy infrastructure and increase the risk of fire, it is clear that there are many problems with how SCE has managed this wind event.

Small communication from SCE of their customers

Rowe said that many residents who live well outside the fire areas are experiencing long interruptions.

To January 7The Los Angeles Fire Day, SCE, excluded power to 16,974 households in the cities of Los Angeles, Riverside, Orange and Ventura. Another 43,079 households were considered to exclude electricity, including residents in the cities of Kern and Santa Barbara.

There is also concern about SCE’s notifications for PSP clients.

“In many cases, there is little communication from SCE for its customers about when power will be restored. The lack of useful information from SCE is alarming, “Rowe said.

Rowe recommended that SCE have more flexibility built into their schemes to minimize the number of affected customers.

Premature press for complete electrification in California

California has applied a series of fossil fuel transition regulations and promotes renewable energy.

This includes Rule for advanced clean cars II rulewhich imposes 100% sales of zero emissions by 2035.

Rowe said that the state’s premature impetus for complete electrification will only worsen the challenges facing the communities.

“The state must realize the impact of its policies on our communities and take action to ensure that what happened during this wind event does not become a new standard in our county,” Row said.

SCE customers may file complaints and concerns to the California Commission for Utilities (CPUC) HERE: https://www.cpuc.ca.gov/consumer-support/file-a-colfaint/utility-copplaint.
