Coolfont Resort, a mountain retreat near Berkli Springs, was devastated by a structural fire on Sunday night, which destroyed the main building of the property.
The dispatchers were notified on Sunday at 9:33 pm that the Coolfont’s Treatop’s restaurant and Lounge were ignited, according to the director of the Morgan E911 County Marshal Juncker.
For several hours, Juncker said 16 emergency response agencies from Maryland, Virginia and West Virginia attended Blaze, including fire, hazel and medical teams. No injuries have been reported.
Among the respondents was the Hancock Volunteer Fire Service in Washington County, Maryland, led by Chief Robert Hoopengard. Hoopengardner told the public broadcast in West Virginia that the fire had led to what “appears” – a complete structural loss, but that emergency respondents contain it in the single building.
“We were there almost all night,” he said. “I think the last crews may have left around 5:30 or 6:00 [a.m.]S “
Hoopengardner said the cause of the fire is yet to be determined. His team arrived at the scene later than most units, and the back of the building was already swallowed up by the flames, he said.
On Monday morning, the city of Bat – a municipal government, located in Berkeli Springs, said on Facebook that the fire had “ignited”, but that local emergency respondents were working to extinguish it.
The Berkli Springs Volunteer Fire Service, which leads to emergency response efforts on Sunday, did not immediately respond to phone calls or email requests for comment on this story. Emergency response staff that spoke with WVPB did not mention subsequent fires on the spot.
Despite the winter cold, the fire on Sunday was one of several who hit the Mountain State over the weekend. The Western Virginia Fire Marshal service has announced that four residents in the state have been killed by individual incidents over the weekend in Facebook publication on Monday.
This includes numerous fatal fires, plus gas leakage and an explosion at the Harrison County Residence on Sunday.
In December, a brush in the nearby Kakapon Mountain in Morgan County burned more than 100 acres of forest cover, WVPB reported earlier.
COOLFONT RESORT does not answer a comment email request on this story. But since the local media first reported the fire Sunday, many local and district organizations went to social media to express support for the Coolfont team and the management for community members.
The city of BAT informed the residents through Facebook that the use of local water resources by fire respondents could temporarily cause low water pressure.
“We kindly ask for your understanding and patience during this time, as our brave firefighters continue their decisive work to put the situation under control,” the publication said.
Coolfront Resort is a support for accommodation and recreation for Morgan County from the 1960s, located at the base of the Kakapon Mountain. The property has a lake, pedestrian paths, indoor swimming facilities and conference rooms, according to the resort website.
The Berkli Springs-Morgan County Chamber of Commerce said in a Facebook publication that their “hearts are coming out” to staff and resort owners.
“Coolfont is more than a business. It was the life of life in Morgan County, offering great food, drinks, wellness and a place for countless events, “the publication said. “Many of us have personal stories tied to Coolfont, from community gatherings to quiet retreats.”
The Chamber of Commerce added that local organizations and community members are “ready to support” the resort “in every way we can”.
“While the loss is huge, we are deeply grateful that there was no loss of life – an evidence of the quick actions of employees and emergency officers,” they continued. “We are here to help you collect, recover and go through this more, because it is us. Morgan County Strong, always. “
