Entering the new place in the northeastern launch of 1310 Abbot Road, there are two large dining spaces. One side of the restaurant is more memorable to the Renault atmosphere, with significant windows around a bar with a room length and several TVs. The other side is very similar to a higher-end restaurant with a more complex atmosphere.
While both brands provide these rooms for customers’ preferences, one north tries to refine family meals and not just be recognized as a sports bar.
“We are a food cocktail restaurant and a zero craft that focuses on the family,” said third -place operating partner Jason Hoffman. “The good thing is that we have part of the sports atmosphere of the bar.”
While location is still a place for people to dinner, drink and watch the game, the menu is no longer heavy for a freezer and 85% to 90% of their menu is made from scratch.
“We have numerous refrigerators with many, very limited freezer space,” Hoffman said. “We are proud of our food. The food comes first with us.”
He said the drinks were also more sophisticated. Barmans are considered to be restaurant myxologists and have the freedom to create their own drinks.
One north already has three seats: Jackson, Lansing and East Lansing. Two of these places were previously Reno’s, a sports bar. The location of West Lansing opened in 2020 and was voted for the best new Lansing restaurant in 2021 by The City Pulse of Top of the Town Contest.
Jesse Stippkak, the owner of Renault, addressed Scott Berman, the owner of one north, in August 2023 for the sale of the location of the Eastern Lansing. Knowing that the area is Prime Real Estate, Berman has decided to move with the purchase of the property just three years after the transformation of Reno’s Lansing, Hoffman said.
The condition of the building has caused renovation and allowed it to take longer than expected, and the date of opening a north was pushed 90 days. The location opened on December 30, at the end of 2024. Now they are working to win the clientele.
“We offer on the market to guests who want a quality scratch, home -made food that changes regularly and people who want cocktails and a pleasant, higher environment,” Hoffman said. “Although we have some of this sports bar from it on our side of the bar, we are trying to make sure that we have this family environment.”
Hoffman said a north knows that the clientele of college is inevitable while in such a proximity to the State University in Michigan, but they are trying to attract people looking for a quality nutrition environment.
One north hired about 120 new employees before opening, with the majority being college students. The restaurant uses several platforms to launch and succeed in reaching all generations. Some employees cause Tiktoks to please the younger audience.
Aimee Corts, a marketing manager to the north, said their Tiktok page does not see much growth with other places, but it seems that it works for East Lansing.
“My staff does a really great job and promote it from its own social media, which is great for us,” Corts said. “We didn’t ask them, they did it themselves.”
Courts said the restaurant changed its interior branding. Instead of seeing the place covered in MSU colors as a Renault, they focus on the common decor suitable for the family.
“If anyone wants to have a wedding reception here, he may not want to be Michigan everywhere, so we somehow have taken it down a little,” Corts said. “We still have a corner of our coaches and it is completely flooring in Michigan.”
MSU Coaches radio shows, represented by the Spartan media network, were previously held in Renault but were transferred to one north with a change in ownership. Adam Nightingale, Tom Itso and Robin Frallik are among those who broadcast live from the restaurant. More than 140 people have appeared north for these events.
Hoffman said that within the last three weeks of the opening, they have observed a decent leg in the business. A local Lansing area among those who made their first visit is Tina House. Hause, 62 -year -old, is brokers and a member of Facebook Group, Lansing Foodies. She maintains that she has been at every restaurant in the area at least once.

“I feel that Renault – I love their food, I love their salads, I love their pizza – but I feel like it was definitely directed at a younger crowd with a little less pretentious menu,” Hause said. “I think a north is higher than what was Renault.”
House said the service was also better and the atmosphere was different. Hause enjoys the duality of the restaurant and is excited to see how they design their inner courtyard, as it is a major attraction to the site of the west side. She also said that the new black tile interior is more elegant and superb to attract the clientele with a bigger budget.
“I think they are trying to attract more businessmen in the area because there are so many businesses just around this restaurant,” she said. “You can go to lunch or go for a drink after work or meet someone for dinner. This is definitely the place I want to go.”
