The reduction of staff and annual maintenance costs led to the closure of three national campsites at the San Bernardino forest campsite throughout the 2025 season.
Officials from the US Forest Service/National Forest in San Bernardino have announced the closure of the following campsites in the San Jackinto neighborhood:
-
Camping of the black mountain group
-
Telle
Forest officials said these campsites have low levels of use over the cost of operation and maintenance.
Dark Canyon Campground has an additional requirement of a full -time camping host as a result of the frog restoration agreement with mountain yellow legs between the American Forest and American Fish and Wildlife Service.
Efforts in recent years to find the right host have failed, according to forest officials.
The campsites that remain open include:
-
San Jackinto, including Pinyon Flats Campground on a year -round basis for the first time.
-
Marion Mountain Campground
-
Kemping of the Boulder pool that was opened for memory until the end of October/early November
Reservations for the Fern, Marion and Boulder pool are available on recreation.gov.
