On Wednesday, Senator JD Vance visited Las Vegas and Reno to discuss the impact of current issues on American workers.
In his remarks, Vance focused on key platform points such as inflation, the southern border and social media censorship, targeting Nevada’s service workers. Specifically, Vance highlighted Donald Trump’s “no tip tax” proposal, which aims to eliminate all taxes on tips for the thousands of service workers who rely on them in Nevada.
“Nevada families are being hit by the tax policies of Kamala Harris and Nevada workers; i don’t think they can stand another four years of the irs coming and harassing you for a few bucks if the irs is going to do anything. Why don’t you go after companies that send jobs overseas and leave middle-class Nevadans alone,” Senator Vance said.
Two students working in the service sector spoke at the rally. Nevada Republican Party Chairman Michael McDonald spoke about economic pressures. Republican U.S. Senate candidate Sam Brown emphasized that registered Republicans are leading in Washoe County voter turnout.
Kamala Harris supports the idea of eliminating taxes on tips. Trump accused her of copying him, but Culinary Workers Union Secretary-Treasurer Ted Papageorge said the Republican bill, sponsored by Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas, was poorly written. He says Democrats have a more comprehensive bill written by Nevada Congressman Stephen Horsford to provide relief to American workers.
“Let’s deal with this sub-minimum wage, let’s deal with tip taxes and have a real plan for it. See, this is under the umbrella of a comprehensive comprehensive plan to address the cost of living for working class families. And look, Trump has no plan,” Pappargeorge said.
On Wednesday morning, to oppose JD Vance’s suspension in Reno, Team Harris-Waltz and Nevada Democrats hosted a rally with remarks from U.S. Sen. Patty Murray of Washington and House candidate Erica Roth.
