A man accused of arson after reporting a stolen vehicle burned – WBRZ

Baton Rouge – Investigators arrested a man who reported his stolen all -terrain vehicle before being set on fire in the parking lot of Brek Park.

Baton Ruzh’s Fire Service is investigating a fire on the vehicle that happened in a Breck parking on Greenwell Street early in the morning on December 27. The vehicle was swallowed in flames when firefighters arrived and were destroyed.

Robert Cotton owned the vehicle and announced that he had been stolen while he was out of town.

Arrest documents show that footage from a security camera from the area shows a masked man in the parking lot watching a similar SUV before finding cotton. The man boarded the Cotton vehicle and left before the vehicle was found later burned.

Investigators believe that Cotton and the man had an agreement for the man to “steal” and burn his vehicle.

Monday, cotton was arrested for arson with the intention of deceiving.
