South Carolina defeats Tennessee to extend the winning series to 15, including five directly over rank enemies – CBS Sports

No. 2 South Carolina won the 70-63 time over 18 Tennessee on Monday night and continued to make history in the process. With the victory, Gamecocks extended their winning series to 15 games, with the last five passing over the ranked opponents – No. 5 Texas, No. 19 Alabama, No. 13 Oklahoma, No. 5 LSU and No. 18 Tennessee.

In the last 25 years, only two other programs have defeated opponents in five straight games-Aconn (2008-09) and Notre Dame (2023-2024).

The only loss came against the still invincible Ucla back on November 24th. Perhaps the most impressive statistics are that in the last four seasons South Carolina has been 41-2 against the top 25 teams, including 11-1 on the road.

“Our team is sustainable, they can win many different ways,” Staley said after the game. “I think that the greatest pulling of this section is mentally. Obviously, it is a physical battle to play only in a second, but to do it against the best teams in this conference is difficult. us, cohesion and many different styles of play.

According to Warren Nolan Gamecocks, they have the most difficult power of the nation, but their depth, protection and ability to make adjustments have helped them succeed.

After a slow offensive start against Tennessee, South Carolina began to back away at the end of the second quarter. Gamecocks led with as many as 22 points per minute in the fourth, but Tennessee pulled back and received within six points with the remaining 14 seconds.

Gamecocks is experiencing the upset scare, but Lady Vols snapped at her 14-year-old series of 10 plus points. With the result of Monday, South Carolina extended its record for all time with 55 wins in the conference.

Freshman Joyce Edwards led 18 points, as five South Carolina players reached double figures as the bench exceeded 38-22 on Tennessee. It was a force for Gamecocks as they are the only Division I team with a bench that exceeds their entrees.

Lady Vols also spread her crime with nine players who note. They were led by Ruby Whitehorn and Talausia Cooper with 12 and 11 points respectively. Tennessee entered the game on Monday as the top 3-point shooting team in the country with 11.5 3-calling per game. However, South Carolina’s defense detains Lady Vols only 3 out of 26 (11.5%) beyond the arc and 23 of 75 (30.7%) of the field.

Gamecocks (20-1, 8-0 Sec) will host Auburn on Sunday and will try to extend its home series to 70 games. Meanwhile, Tennessee (15-5, 3-5 seconds) will take Missouri on the road.
