Telma Victoria Blomquist Martinen, 94 -year -old, from Wilmington, died on Saturday, January 25, 2025, at the Novant Health New Hanover Regional Medical Center in Wilmington.
Telma was born on June 27, 1930 in Brooklyn, New York, the late Arnold and Elia Blomquist.
She married Raymond Wailic in 1951 and lived in Brookfield, Connecticut until 1971. They have five daughters together. In 1971, Telma moved to Wilmington, North Carolina, married Asco Martinen and had a son.
Telma’s first grandchild gave her the name “MEMA”. For the rest of her life, she was known to most people with love like “Mema” because she had a grandmother a love for everyone.
Telma was glad to teach reading in the school system of New Hanover County for 40 years. But what she loved most was her family and her church. She had a strong faith in God. During the test, she would confess all this “I’m not afraid. Jesus is with me and He will protect me. ” As a member throughout the life of the old Lutheran Church of the Apostle, she truely raises six children with her cheerful spirit and a forgiving heart.
Her six children are left to appreciate her memory; Janet (Larry) Basden, Donna McQueen, Jonathan (Jesse) Martinen, all from Wilmington, North Carolina, Carol Het of Rocky Point, North Ka; 38 grandchildren; 145 great grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, Telma was preceded by death by all her siblings; Her twin brother, Theodore “Ted” Blomquist, Brothers Arnold Blomquist and Lars Blomquist, and sisters Nimi Berg, Estela Hendrickson, Esther Foster, Blomquist and Eileen Hugel.
Instead of flowers, the memorial donations can be made to the old Apostolic Lutheran Church.
Her funeral service will be held at 11:00 on Saturday, February 1, 2025, in the old Lutheran church of the Apostle in Castle Hayne with Wayne McBride and Robert Erxtm. The interment will follow at the Greenlawn Memorial Park in Wilmington. The visit will be at 18:00 Friday, January 31, 2025, at Quinn McGowen’s funeral home in Wilmington.
