Idaho House tells Scotus to turn the same -sex marriage decision – public radio Boise State

Aidaho House’s legislators have signed a resolution in which the US Supreme Court would annul its 2015 decision legalizing same -sex marriage across the country.

The resolution, which does not carry the weight of the law, asks the judges for the more “… restoration of the natural definition of marriage, the union of a man and a woman.”

The sponsor of the bill, reporter Heather Heather Scott, said the resolution was solely for the restoration of state rights to control the laws of marriage, as was considered well. Idaho voters described marriage as only a man and one woman in the state constitution in 2006 with 63% approval.

Scott and other resolution supporters have stated that the majority in Obergefell against Hodges incorrectly apply 14th Amendment.

“They are people. They make mistakes, “said Rep. Lucas Kaler (R-Caldwell). I believe that just like Roe V. Wade was a bad case law, I think Obergefell against Hodges was also a bad case law. “

If approved by the Senate, a copy of the legislation will be sent to judges in DC

Opponents, as a reporter Todd Achilles, said it was a waste of time and money after all.

“This is really at the end of the day, nothing more than a murmur letter with our names on it. Thehe [fiscally] A responsible thing to do is stop it here and stop it today, “Achilles said.

Reporter Clint Hostetler (R-Twin Falls) has rejected this idea. Standing what you believe is right, he said, is always a good thing.

“Whether it is destroyed and discarded, whether the wording is accurate or whether it is ignored, this is what we have to do,” Hosteller said.

According to a survey of 2023, the Institute for the Study of Public Religion, 59% of Idahoans, supported same -sex marriage, compared to 39%, which opposed it.

Throughout the country, the same poll found that 67% of Americans support same -sex marriage.

Fifteen Republicans have joined all nine democrats in the vote on the measure that is now going to the Senate.
