Strong storms hit parts of DC, Maryland – AOL

The Brief

  • The National Meteorological Service has issued a warning of a strong thunderstorm for the eastern part of Colombia and parts of Maryland.

  • The storm brings wind gusts at a speed of 60 miles per hour and a quarter -sized hail, with risks of falling trees, blocked roads, power outages and flying debris.

  • Tornado warning was also issued for parts of Prince George County until 6:00 pm

What we know

The National Meteorological Service has issued a warning of a strong thunderstorm for numerous areas in the eastern parts of Colombia County and Central and South Maryland. It expired at 18:45 on Tuesday.

The warning covers the districts of Anne Arundel, Prince George, Calvert and Charles. It was in force until 19:45 for the Northwestern County St. Mary.

At 6:00 pm, the radar detected strong thunderstorms moving northeast at 50 miles per hour, with a line of storms extending from Bladensburg to near Dunkirk and the Wicomico River. Wind gusts reached 60 miles per hour and a quarter -sized hail was found.

Zones at risk

Residents of Waldorf, Bowie, Severn, Annapolis, Clinton, College Park and several other communities, including LeonardTown and Chesapeake Beach, were asked to take immediate precautions.

Officials called on everyone in the affected areas to provide outdoor objects, avoid windows and remain indoors in a healthy building.

Tornado Warning in Prince George County

This warning follows an earlier tornado warning about parts of Prince George County, including Camp Springs, Ockson Hill and Hilcres, which expired at 6:00 pm.

Residents should be alert for updates as bad weather continues to move in the region.
