Things don’t go well for Cleveland Cavaliers. They have lost three straight for the first time throughout the season and downloaded five of nine games after their statement won over Oklahoma City Thunder.
Let’s get into what has been learned from this disappointing area.
Nothing works defensive
There are many things you can blame for bad protection. The area is bad, the bounce is awful, they were missing from key participants, etc. No matter the reason, it is safe to say that it just doesn’t work right now.
Cavs became last season in Indiana Pacers in January. They have published the best offensive rating (123.2) and the second worst defense rating (121.3) after the New Year. This led to the very small limit of mistakes we saw last week, as CAVS dropped their three games with only eight points.
Such things happen when you are constantly on the edge of the razor.
Poor rebound is partially responsible for dropping out. Opponents collect 30.8% of their gaps this month (25th in the league). For comparison, they were 19 in the League from the beginning of the season until January 1st.
In addition, opponents just rains on them, as they hit 38.9% of their troops (23rd in the league).
The protection of the area is partly responsible for poor recovery and triphoners against. It is designed to cut paths to the basket, but requires clean rotations to the corner and wings to challenge threes.
You should also deliberately find your husband to box when you are in an area different from the defense of the person where you are already close to the person you are guarding.
Cavs do neither.
The non -compliant results will continue as things are cleaned for this purpose.
CAVS had no interest in guarding Fred vanlet
There is not much comparison between NBA and what normal people have experienced with a pickup or basketball from the river. However, there is one common thread: when someone continues to make undeniable threesomes, at one point you probably have to keep them.
Cavs had no interest in covering the Houston missile security, feeding Vanvleet in both losses this week. It combines to go 13-21 out of three (61.9%) while delivering games for singing games in both competitions.
A closer look at the numbers shows that it has caused most of its damage to wide open threes. Vanvleet went 9-11 (81.8%) to threes, where the closest defender was six feet or further. When someone was just a cry, it only turned into 4-10. Forty percent are still good, but this is something you can live with. You can’t live with nine wide open rules in two games that were set by a five -point combination.
The ease with which Vanvleet managed to generate these photos shows how poor the Cleveland area containing set shooters is. This alone does not make it a viable option not to mention the bounce problems that are constantly cut.
Although Cavs do not play Rockets again this season, other teams will be able to follow the very simple formula of simply transfer to open space and hit undeniable photos.
Something has to change.
Darius Garland arrived
CAVS insisted Garland be all-Star for a long time. I asked him after the victory over Charlotte Hornets earlier this month, if that is important to him.
“Yes,” Garland said simply. “That’s my goal. I want to be All-Star. I want to go back to this level of game I was in. I’m healthy this season. I plan to be in San Francisco. “
He has not played as All-Star ever since, he plays as an All-Nba selection.
Garland is an average of 25.8 points and 7.3 assists with just 2.7 rpm in his last 10 trips. He does this with an incredible 60.7 effective percentage of the purpose of the field.
Missed free throws in a late game that cost Cleveland the game against Houston on Thursday will overshadow this week and understandable. But this does not invalidate the growth that it constantly shows.
Garland carved Houston, one of the best protection in the league, twice in a short order. He was the undisputed best offensive player on the court in both races against the wing test protection that has traditionally caused him problems. This included an effective 39 -point trip on Saturday, where Houston had absolutely no way to stop his dribble penetration or pull a three -point shooting.
The talent has always been there as a guarantee. We would see him in flashes and flashes since he entered the League, but he always seemed to be something that keeps him from gathering him for an extended area.
This was not the case this season and it is just improving.
It’s time to start recognizing Garland as one of the best guards in the league.
