Alzheimer’s Caregiver Conference to Focus on Caregiver Support – KGNS

LAREDO, Texas (KGNS) – As Alzheimer’s treatments improve, the needs of caregivers are often overlooked. To help, the Alzheimer’s Association is holding an Alzheimer’s Care Balancing Act conference. This event will focus on supporting Alzheimer’s and dementia caregivers.

Experts from San Antonio, Arizona and beyond will share tips on how caregivers can take care of themselves. Sandra Gonzalez, a volunteer with the Alzheimer’s Association, talks about the hard work of being a caregiver.

“It’s a progressive disease, so it requires 24/7 care for your loved one, and eventually you’ll need all the support of family members, not just themselves, because it’s taking a toll on them. So it’s important for them to care so they can be there and take care of their loved one,” Gonzalez said.

The event will be held on Thursday, October 24, at the UT Education and Research Center on Bustamante Street. Registration begins at 8 a.m. and the event runs from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m
