The Seattle Seahawks hired the New Orleans Saints offensive coordinator Clint Kubiak for their offensive coordinator position, according to Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network.
The 37-year-old Kubiak will replace him Ryan Grubbwho was fired by the head coach Mike McDonald after only one season of operation.
Kubiak, the son of the former NFL head coach Gary Kubiaklasted just one season in New Orleans. The Saints got off to a hot start under Kubiak, scoring 91 points in their first two wins to open the season. The offense struggled from there, as New Orleans failed to score more than 19 points in each of the final six games of the season. However, the Saints have dealt with injuries to key players, including a defender Derek Carr and receiver Chris Olave.
Klint Kubiak lands a third OC role
With New Orleans still searching for its next head coach after the midseason firing Dennis AllenKubiak was a likely candidate to come through this offseason. Prior to his stop in New Orleans, Kubiak served as the passing game coordinator for the San Francisco 49ers. Kubiak helped the 49ers reach the Super Bowl in 2023. with a strong quarterback-led passing game Brock Purdy. He also announced playing for the Minnesota Vikings in 2021.
The Seahawks hope Kubiak will be an upgrade after finishing 18th in scoring and 14th in total yards while missing the playoffs this season. The Seahawks were 28th in rushing, and McDonald clearly had a problem with that.
Grub paid for it.
“Ryan is a great football coach. We did some really great things offensively this year,” McDonald said earlier this month. “I mean, Geno had a bunch of career highs throwing the ball. We did some really cool situational stuff. I know Jax had a great year. So, we did a lot of great things.
“I just think my vision for our offense ended up being just different from where I thought Ryan thought it was going. So, we respect that. We wish him the best.”
Kubiak has a lot of good pieces to work with at quarterback Gino Smith to running backs Kenneth Walker and Zach Charbonnet and receivers Jackson Smith-Njigba and DK Metcalfe.
