The Seattle Mariners bullpen will be one of the most intriguing positions in the lineup to follow on the team.
The infield is the biggest priority for the Mariners after the regular season ends. But the bullpen wasn’t far behind in terms of what the club needed to improve.
Matt Brash is expected to return earlier than expected from Tommy John surgery, Gregory Santos will be healthy after dealing with several injuries for most of 2024, and prospects like Hunter Cranton and Brandin Garcia are also expected to have a chance to make an impact on the major league roster.
Seattle has also acquired several relievers in the past few weeks. The Mariners traded one of those pitchers, right fielder Will Klein, to the Athletics in exchange for international slot money.
Klein has just eight games of major league experience, all in 2024. In those outings with the Athletics and Kansas City Royals, Klein posted an 11.05 ERA with seven strikeouts in 7.1 innings.
Despite those numbers, Klein is a solid player who has shown flashes of potential and could be solid with better control.
One of the most prominent baseball training facilities in the country released a video highlighting the speed that made Kline an intriguing accomplishment for the Mariners.
Driveline Baseball posted a video on “X” (formerly known as Twitter) showing Cline working a little on the launch pad and taking a spot on the leaderboard with a fastball that hit 98.4 mph.
Klein’s speed is undoubtedly his strength. According to Baseball Savant, Klein’s fastball velocity was in the 91st percentile of the league in 2024. averaging 97 mph.
If Seattle’s pitching development staff can teach Klein control, his speed could be put to good use in the front end of the team’s major league bullpen.
